West End urban renewal plan developer is chosen.
June 30, 1958
(June) Boston Redevelopment Authority chooses the Charles River Park Associates, a group that includes Jerome Rappaport, former personal secretary to Mayor John Hynes. Their plan calls for clearing the 48-acre site and building some 477 apartments in five residential complexes, each containing a 23-story tower, a 16-story concrete slab apartment building, and a row of three-story town houses. The first building in what comes to be called Charles River Park opens in 1962.*
